Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Darian Davis

Lions recapture their rhythm heading into conference action

September 24, 2022

Keene, TX -On the lush fields of Bainum Field, Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) played their penultimate non-conference match versus Southwestern Adventist University (SWAU).

Lion Review

  • In the first half of the game, the Lions' superior defensive rotations drove SWAU into tight operating spaces.

  • The Lion defenders would fly across the field, not allowing the home team enough space to shoot at the goal shielded by keeper Jose Ladoriel.

  • Jafet Ramirez would drop a kick from the sky to provide Ted Okoroh the chance to punt a goal into the goal.

  • Juan Ambriz and Jacob Sang would establish their presence with superb footwork and passing.

  • The Lions led 1-0 at the break, thanks to a goal from Ted Okoroh

  • Ethan Stewart's aggressive play led to him punching a goal of his own, assisted by Sang.

  • In the end, the Lions would win the game 2-0.

Espana's Thoughts

"This was a good game for the boys to build upon what we have been working on all season. There were plenty of chances we could not put away. Still, we will walk away with a positive attitude and a good note to start the conference Tuesday in Oklahoma," SAGU men's soccer associate head coach Cesar Espana said.

The Next Step

On Tuesday, September 27, the Lions begin conference play against the University of Science and Arts (USAO) in Chickasha, OK.
