Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | Darian Davis

Lions will continue to develop following their first conference game

September 27, 2022

Chickasha, OK: The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions traveled to play the University of Science and Arts (USAO) Drovers on McLaughlin Field in their opening conference game of the 2022 campaign. The Lions knew going into the game they would be up against a highly strong and skillful Driver team with a roster loaded with scoring options.

The Drovers are on the better side of a lopsided record against SAGU in past games between the two Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) teams. The youthful SAGU club sought to rapidly distribute the ball and defend the goal box as a collective in order to compete.

Lions Review

  • The Drovers drove the Lions from beginning to end, scoring three goals in the first half and four more in the remaining 45 minutes of play.

  • Ethan Stewart, a midfielder for SAGU, used deft movement to evade the USAO defense and score a solo goal during the game's first period of play.

  • SAGU team captain, keeper Jose Ladoriel, was able to record impressive save percentages, stopping 6 of the USAO shots.

  • Outstanding Lions who played energetically and passed the ball well on offense included Jacop Sang, Ted Okoroh, Bryan Linares, and Jafet Ramirez.

  • Guilherme Calvacante produced thrilling defensive plays for SAGU.

Oancea's Opinion

"A few mistakes we will fine-tune during practice are getting in the way of the team's success. While we are disappointed in the result tonight, we will keep our heads held high with faith that as we continue to work hard, we will grow fast. The next six weeks of conference play will go by very fast, so we must do all we can to advance and perform," SAGU men's soccer head coach Clementin Oancea noted.

The Next Step

On Saturday, October 1, the SAGU Lions will host Oklahoma City University in Waxahachie to begin conference play at home.
