Waxahachie, TX: On Thursday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Langston University (LU) Lions.

After a valiant effort, Langston University defeated SAGU 99-58 in the Lion versus Lion jungle fight.

Lion Review

  • Rylee Lavender baited a LU defender into fouling her to score the game's opening point at the free-throw line.

  • Kyla McMinn entered the game and provided superb play in the paint on both ends of the court. McMinn spun and sprayed a post hook on her first shot attempt of the game.

  • McMinn, on her second touch in the post, scored a drop step and 1 to end a long LU scoring run. After the first period of play, Langston held a 20-point advantage over SAGU.

  • Chanie Chambers snagged back-to-back steals in the second period by extending her defensive ball pressure to center court.

  • SAGU was behind LU 52-28 at the break. McMinn had eight points and five rebounds to head the Lady Lions. Rylee Lavender contributed 8 points as well.

  • Macy Smith added a corner three-pointer in the second half, igniting the home crowd. Neeley Tilley-Bedick warmed up after the halftime intermission to cook up a productive scoring period.

  • The LU resistance ultimately defeated SAGU, and they were able to flee with a sizable victory.
