Lady Lions triumph over OPSU in a thrilling finish

January 21, 2023

Goodwell, OK: On Saturday afternoon at the Anchor D Arena at Oscar Williams Field House in Goodwell, Oklahoma, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies.

SAGU defeated OPSU 72-70 in the SAC rematch behind clutch shooting and defense.

Lion Review

  • In the first period, the Lady Lions gave the Aggies fits by sharing the basketball efficiently and confidently knocking down the open shots their unselfish ball movement created.

  • After the first period's intermission, Neeley Tilley-Bedick and Taylor Moravcik combined for 15 points, scoring in various ways.

  • The Lady Lions' most successful and equally dispersed scoring run occurred in the second period. Autumn Moore, Rylee Lavender, Neeley Tilley-Bedick, and Macy Smith all made long three-pointers.

  • Throughout the game, Taylor Moravcik controlled the glass, making it difficult for the Aggies to box her out as she rushed for rebounds.

  • A scoring surge by the Aggies in the fourth and final period changed the game's outcome to a two-possession game. Unfazed by the tenacious Aggie team, Rylee Lavender swished a deep triple in front of the SAGU bench to break the game's score tie and quiet the home fans at OPSU.

  • The SAGU squad would return home with a 72-70 triumph after a crucial steal clinched the Lady Lions' victory.

  • Top performers for SAGU were Taylor Moravcik, who collected her second consecutive double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds; Kyla McMinn and Neeley Tilley-Bedick scored 11 points; and Autumn Moore, who scored 10.

  • Additionally, Macy Smith scored two three-pointers on the way to a new season best of 8 points.

Son's Spiel

"I'm proud of the team today! We earned a hard-fought road win; we are getting better every time we step out on the court. OPSU played a great game, they made a run at us, and we showed some maturity and poise to hold on. I am a proud coach!." SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
