Goodwell, OK: On Saturday afternoon at the Anchor D Arena at Oscar Williams Field House in Goodwell, Oklahoma, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies.
SAGU defeated OPSU convincingly 108-77.
Lion Review
-
Cortland Blake and Brooks Haddock were lights out in the first half of the game, draining jumpers all over the Aggie home floor and preventing the OPSU home crowd from finding any serenity.
-
Senior guard Noah Boiling would attempt long jump shots of his own to emulate the tone established by the Lions' top scorers. Boiling accepted to defend Rayquan Elliott, the Aggies' wing who averages the most points per game in the NAIA.
-
The senior forward Tyler Kinghorn totally destroyed the OPSU defense, providing the Lions with their most enormous surge. Kinghorn slammed home a string of long ball attempts before crashing like a wrecking ball on a layup attempt in the Aggies' paint en route to his ten first-half points.
-
SAGU was in front of OPSU by a score of 55-31 at the break. The Lion continued to shoot brilliantly after the break at halftime.
-
Twelve SAGU players were able to score throughout the second half of the game. Among the scoring waves were a JJ Boiling breakaway windmill jam and ten more Tyler Kinghorn baskets with perfect shooting percentages.
-
Kaleb Hughley had a season-high seven points by draining a deep three-pointer, cutting to the basket for an impressive layup, and sinking a step-back mid-range shot. A new season best of 10 points was also recorded by Trace Boling, who used percussion to stroke the ball from a distance.
-
Tyler Kinghorn, the SAGU player of the game, finished with 20 points while making all seven of his field goal attempts.
-
Both Cortland Blake and Noah Boling scored 17 points in the finale.
Deal's Declaration
"What a great approach to respond to a loss on the road. The group worked well as a unit. Tyler put on a spectacular performance; his fearless play early on set the tone, and the team benefited from his contagious energy. Proud of this team." SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
