Game Recap: Men's Basketball | | Darian Davis

Trace Boling dropped a season high in the Lions win over USAO

January 26, 2023

Waxahachie, TX: On Thursday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the University of Science and Arts (USAO) Drovers.

The Lions were able to conquer the Drovers in their SAC rematch 85-80.

Lion Review

  • Due to the Lions' balanced scoring attack and solid bench performance in the first half of the game, they were able to take a commanding lead. Eight different individuals aided the SAGU team's successful score.

  • Trace Boling was a standout performer in the first half. Boling delivered pure, knockdown long-range shooting and converted all three of his three-point attempts.

  • Boling's three-pointers, a Tyler Kinghorn fastbreak, and one layup following a Dallas Smith steal were crucial plays that allowed SAGU to establish a comfortable lead.

  • Noah Boling and Cortland Blake both scored eight points in the first half. SAGU had twice as many assists as USAO did at the halfway break. (12-6)

  • Tyler Kinghorn and Cortland Blake of the Lions' frontcourt took control of the game in the second half. Together, the two stud forwards scored 19 points and pulled down 11 rebounds in the second half.

  • The finishing touches on a valiant SAGU victory came from Noah Boling's clutch shooting and a block from birthday boy JJ Boling.

  • Cortland Blake finished the game with 18 points and one rebound shy of a double-double. Tyler Kinghorn scored 15 points and also finished one rebound shy of a double-double.

  • Trace Boling set a new season best with his final tally of 12 points and four made three-pointers.

  • Noah Boling scored 13 points, while Philbert Weekes scored 10.

Deal's Declaration

"It was a fantastic team victory. The team remained as one during every run and every trying situation. Trace had a great performance, and the home crowd was awesome.." SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
