SAGU defeats crosstown foe TWU, Boling scores 29

January 28, 2023

Fort Worth, TX: On Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against their cross-town rivals the Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) Rams.

The Lions blitzed their crosstown rival TWU 88-78 in a grudge match.

Lion Review

  • In the first half, the Lions began the game fired up and clicking as a team, ready for their chance to even the SAC matchup standings against their crosstown rivals.

  • Noah Boling's hand was so hot to begin the game the senior guard's teammates needed oven mitts to give him high fives.

  • Boling scored 19 first-half points while only missing one of his eight field goal attempts. Boling also added three flashy, acrobatic assists to the stat sheet at the halfway point as the Lions held a 42-29 point lead over the Rams.

  • At the halftime intermission, Alerick Hall had pulled down a career-best six rebounds. Hall, despite being under six feet tall, was the mightiest player hawking rebounds in heavy traffic.

  • In the second half, the Lions controlled the game by defending well and sharing the basketball. The Lions inside-out approach kept the TWU defense off-balance.

  • SAGU big men Tyler Kinghorn, Philbert Weekes, and Cortland Blake consistently feed each other for high-low layups.

  • Wise offensive decisions, clever defense, and clutch free throw shooting ultimately contributed to SAGU sealing the 88-78 victory.

  • Top performers for SAGU were Noah Boling, who finished with a career-high 29 points on 10/12 shooting,  Brooks Haddock, who scored 15 points, and Tyler Kinghorn, who added 12 points.

  • Philbert Weekes finished with a double-double of 11 and 12.

Deal's Declaration

"What a great game in a very tough environment versus a very good team! Five guys in double figures and a complete team effort! Huge performance from Noah Boling tonight as well. I have a ton of respect for Coach Shingleton and Texas Wesleyan and anytime we play it's a classic. Proud of our guys." SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
