Waxahachie, TX: On Saturday evening at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions men's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the Oklahoma City University (OCU) Stars. Bo Todman, Brooks Haddock, Tyler Kinghorn, and Philbert Weekes, the SAGU team's four seniors, were recognized during a ceremony held before the game.
The Lions trounced Oklahoma City 92-70, thus the Stars were unable to ruin the SAGU celebration.
Lion Review
-
In the game's opening half, the OCU Stars threw haymakers at the Lions senior starting five. The Stars made four of their first five three-point attempts, but the SAGU squad stayed firm and responded with dominance in the interior.
-
Tyler Kinghorn and Philbert Weekes buried defenders with swim moves and spinning hook shots inside the paint to ignite the Lion's scoring attack. The dominant senior big duo posted low and produced a productive first half.
-
With only one missed shot between the two, Kinghorn and Weekes combined for 18 first-half points.
-
Dallas Smith performed well off the bench for the Lions in the first half by scoring eight first-half points and hitting two back-to-back corner threes.
-
At halftime, SAGU led Oklahoma City 46 to 37.
-
In the second half, Cortland Blake was unstoppable. The versatile forward's mix of size, shooting, and speed overwhelmed Oklahoma City.
-
With long three-pointers from Brooks Haddock, Trace Boling, and Noah Boling, SAGU would put the finishing touches on a blowout victory.
-
Top performers for SAGU were Tyler Kinghorn, who finished with 20 points on 70% shooting from the field, Cortland Blake, who scored 24 points and hit four three-pointers, and Dallas Smith, who finished the contest with 12 points.
Deal's Declaration
"I love these seniors. Can't say enough about what they have given to me and this program, and I am so happy that we were able to send them out on a great note. It was a complete team effort and I'm really proud of this team's resolve." SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
