Game Recap: Women's Basketball | | Darian Davis

Against a crosstown rival, Cailyn Tucker achieves a new career high

January 28, 2023

Fort Worth, TX: On Saturday afternoon at the Sid Richardson Center in Fort Worth, Texas, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against their cross-town rivals the Texas Wesleyan University (TWU) Lady Rams.

The Lady Lions were defeated by the Lady Rams 85-58 as a result of turnover issues that plagued the SAGU attack.

Lion Review

  • In the first period, The Lady Lions struggled to take care of the ball against their cross-town rivals. Rylee Lavender was the first SAGU player to score against the high-pressure Lady Rams defense to end the 12-0 TWU scoring run.

  • The Lady Rams scored 15 points off SAGU blunders to take a 22-12 lead against the Lady Lions at the end of the first period.

  • In the second period, the Lady Lions cleaned up their offense. Chanie Chambers and Kyla McMinn were dynamic on both ends of the floor. The Lady Lions cut the deficit to single digits at the halfway point of the second quarter.

  • Despite being a freshman, Cailyn Tucker rose to the occasion and displayed exceptional calmness in front of a hostile away crowd.

  • The Lady Lions were behind 36-27 at the break and had made five of their 10 3-point tries, shooting 50%. At the midway point, Neeley Tilley-Bedick and Cailyn Tucker each had 8 points and two three-pointers apiece.

  • In the second half, Macy Smith, Rylee Lavender, and Cailyn Tucker led the SAGU team as they battled against foul trouble.

  • The Lady Lions were defeated 85-58 in the fourth after a 25-point scoring surge gave TWU the advantage.

  • Cailyn Tucker, who ended with a career-high 14 points, and Rylee Lavender, who scored 16 points, were the top performers.

  • Taylor Moravcik and Autumn Moore each pulled down seven boards.
