Lion Review
-
Brooks Haddock left an SCU defender befuddled when he cashed in a contested fadeaway jumper after pump-faking twice to begin the scoring for the Lions on the road.Â
-
Philbert Weekes looked as if he was putting a mug on the top shelf of a cupboard when he scored on offensive rebound putbacks early and often in the game's first half.Â
-
At the halftime intermission, SAGU held a narrow one-point lead over SCU 41-40. The Lions were able to gain this advantage due to a solid team-rebounding performance. SAGU out-rebounded SCU 23-12.Â
-
To begin the second-half action, SCU was able to convert fast breaks to build a significant advantage.Â
-
This advantage in easy, fast break points ultimately led SCU to victory. SCU scored five times the amount of fast break points as the Lions and shot 50% from three-point range.Â
-
Brooks Haddock scored the high for the Lions with 18 points. Philbert Weekes scored a season's best 17 points on an efficient 8/10 shooting percentage. Weekes also grabbed 12 rebounds (four offensive) to record his fourth double-double as a SAGU Lion.Â
-
In his first start, freshman JJ Boling made three three-point shots to score nine points. Alerick Hall, who led the Lions in the assist department with four dimes, also scored nine points.
Deal's Declaration Â
"I admire the men's tenacity after falling behind. While conference play can indeed be challenging, going forward, we'll aim to be the early defensive aggressor. The guys' willingness to compete through adversity continues to impress me." SAGU head men's basketball coach Delton Deal said.
