SCU defeats the Lady Lions on the road despite a late comeback

January 5, 2023

Bethany, OK: On Monday evening at the Pickens-Springer Gym in Bethany Oklahoma, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played their first Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest of the 2023 year against the the Southwestern Christian University (SCU) Eagles.

After a fierce battle, the Lady Lions' fell to SCU 65-57 to drop the first SAC contest of the new year.

Lion Review

  • Autumn Moore left an SCU defender on the floor with a killer right-to-left crossover and soared to the rim for a finger roll layup early in the first period to begin the scoring for the Lady Lions on the road.

  • After the first period, the Lady Lions trailed SCU 17-10, and Autumn Moore led all scorers with 8 points.

  • After a more vigorous offensive showing, the SAGU women's team went into the halftime intermission trailing SCU 36-26.

  • Rylee Lavender, with nine points, led the Lady Lions squad in the scoring department. Chanie Chambers was the Lady Lions' top rebounder at the halfway point after collecting five first-half rebounds and providing SAGU with extreme hustle off the bench.

  • Taylor Moravick nailed a top-of-the-key long ball to start the second-half action.

  • Fueled by gutsy shot-making from Jennah Savage and Caitlyn Tucker, SAGU made a late push in the final period. The Lady Lions were able to cut the lead to two.

  • In the one-possession game, SCU was able to pull away from SAGU to win the contest 65-57 eventually.

Son's Spiel

"I appreciate how the women bounced back after falling behind. On offense, they effectively distributed the ball, and a few of the young women stepped up and made difficult shots. Conference play is always challenging, but going ahead we'll want to be the early defensive aggressor." SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
