Significant free throw margin helps MACU defeat SAGU

January 7, 2023

Waxahachie, TX: On Saturday afternoon at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions women's basketball team played a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) contest against the No. 25  Mid-America Christian University (MACU) Evangels.

After a tough struggle, MACU defeated the Lady Lions 100–65.

Lion Review

  • In the first period, Taylor Moravcik was flaming hot from three-point range, cashing in both of her long-range attempts.

  • Autumn Moore was also a stud in the first period. Moore's basket cuts and dribble penetration powered the Lady Lions' high-tempo start.

  • At the end of the first period, the Lady Lions trailed the Evangels 23-17.

  • In the second period, both squads continued to score in high doses, but because MACU shot a slightly better percentage from the three-point range, the Evangels built a comfortable margin.

  • Heading into the halftime intermission, the MACU Evangels also shot over four times the amount of free throw attempts as the SAGU Lady Lions. 18 MACU free throw attempts compared to the Lady Lions' four.

  • At halftime, with four assists, Autumn Moore led both teams in the passing department, and MACU held a 45-30 lead over SAGU.

  • Rylee Lavender and Jazra Williams led the Lady Lions' balanced scoring barrage in the third period, but in the fourth, MACU made 17 free throws to take a commanding lead.

  • The Lady Lions ultimately lost against MACU 100–65, in part as a result of Evangels' whooping 44 free throw attempts.

  • Autumn Moore, who had 18 points and three steals, and Taylor Moravcik, who had 11 points and three steals, were SAGU's top performers.

Son's Spiel

"Hats off to them; they played well and made shots! This will help us improve. We have a lot of conference  play left so we can't think about it too much. Accept it, own it, grow from it, and move on." SAGU head women's basketball coach Micheal Sons said.
