Senior Day Success: Lady Lions Shine Bright in Victory Over Southwestern Christian

October 28, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - In a heartwarming Senior Day celebration, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions soccer team honored their graduating seniors with an exceptional performance against the Southwestern Christian University (SCU) Eagles. With Kya Bock, Molly Echard, Tessa Glick, Esther Holtzclaw, Valeria Salas, Abby Wells, Lilly Hanna, and Samantha Rico being recognized for their contributions, the Lady Lions played with unmatched determination, securing a triumphant victory in three impressive sets: 25-10, 25-16, and 25-9 at the Sheaffer Center in Waxahachie, Texas.

Lions Review
The Lady Lions entered the match with high spirits, and Esther Holtzclaw, on a kill assisted by Cassidy Hargesheimer, sealed the deal for a resounding victory in the opening set. The first set witnessed an awe-inspiring display of athletic prowess as Karena Tipton, Bailee Alexander, and Emma Tompkins unleashed deadly kills, setting the tone for the day.

As the contest progressed, SCU showed resilience in the second set, attempting to keep the game competitive. However, the Lady Lions' elite defense led by Tessa Glick and Madison Petton made it clear that their territory was impenetrable. Sliding digs and quick reflexes ensured that the SCU kills didn't find the ground.

The final set was a testament to the Lady Lions' dominance, as Emma Tompkins and Riley Burcham displayed their vital contributions. The final set's lopsided victory confirmed the clean sweep, and it was Alexandra Bonnett, on an assist from Taylor Cavozos, who had the honor of closing the match. The home crowd erupted with joy, celebrating a triumphant Senior Day and the Lady Lions' victory in their final regular-season home contest.
