Goodwell, OK – In a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup on Tuesday evening, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lions soccer team delivered a commanding performance, securing a resounding 1-0 victory over the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies. The game, marked by a remarkable goal from Anna Bewley, was a testament to the Lions' defensive firepower. Ethan Stewart scored the games lone goal in the 87th minute unassisted. 
 

Lions Review
The first half of the match saw both teams engaged in a fierce battle, resulting in a 0-0 halftime stalemate. The contest was marked by solid defensive play and a series of close calls, with both sides vying for control.

As the second half unfolded, the Lions remained steadfast in their commitment to secure a victory. In the 87th minute of the game, Ethan Stewart emerged as the hero, scoring the lone goal of the match, unassisted. Stewart's clinical finish ignited a wave of celebration among the Lions' travel roster, and it proved to be the decisive moment in the game.

On the defensive front, David Calvete Beltran delivered an outstanding performance, making five crucial saves that ensured a clean sheet for the Lions. His ability to thwart the Aggies' offensive attempts was instrumental in maintaining the Lions' lead.

Pedro Figueiredo Mattoso and Jafet Ramirez injected the team with energy and enthusiasm after the halftime break, contributing to the Lions' overall performance. Alejandro Flores displayed fundamental skills and a high soccer IQ, making significant contributions on the field.

With this resounding victory, the Lions look ahead to their next challenge. On October 7th, Saturday, at 2:30 PM, they will face Wayland Baptist University at the Lions Athletic Complex in Waxahachie, Texas.
