Waxahachie, TX - In a thrilling Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup on a cool and windy Saturday morning at the Lions Athletic Complex, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions soccer team faced off against the Wayland Baptist University (WBU) Pioneers.
Lions Review
Brooklyn Piper set the tone for the Lady Lions with relentless and aggressive play on the defensive side of the field. Her tenacity paid off early with a SAGU goal within the first two minutes of the contest. The fabulous freshman duo of Anna Bewley and Stephanie Hernandez partnered for the game's opening score. Hernandez delivered a stunning pass through heavy Wayland traffic, and Bewley unleashed a powerful kick to find the back of the net.
Anna Bewley continued to terrorize the Wayland defense, scoring her second goal of the day, this time assisted by Alejandra Ruiz. Bewley's performance early put her just one goal away from achieving her second consecutive hat-trick. Lydia Johnson showcased her defensive prowess with an acrobatic play, denying a Wayland shot and highlighting the talent on the backside of SAGU's defense.
Head SAGU Women's Soccer Coach Paul Hason motivated his team to envision dominance as they closed the first half of play, with the Lady Lions leading 2-0 at halftime.
In the beginning of the second half, Anna Bewley netted an unassisted goal, completing her hat-trick and securing her second consecutive game with back-to-back hat tricks. The Lady Lions ultimately secured a convincing 3-0 victory, with keeper Zoe Boldt making seven crucial saves to preserve the shutout.
With this impressive win, the Lady Lions moved to a remarkable 4-0 in conference play, underlining their dominance in the SAC.
