Goodwell, OK - The SAGU Lions embarked on a gridiron battle in Goodwell, Oklahoma, facing the Oklahoma Panhandle State University (OPSU) Aggies for a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown. While the Lions displayed remarkable moments and heroic plays, it was OPSU that emerged victorious with a final score of 46-23, marking the conclusion of the Lions' SAC road contests for the season.
Lions Review
In a game that began with cautious offensive moves from both sides, the Lions soon made their presence known with a spectacular 96-yard kick return touchdown by none other than Dylan Alford. Alford, a wizard on special teams, weaved his way through the OPSU defenders, covering the entire 96 yards in an electrifying run. This return not only put points on the board but also set a SAC record for the longest return.
Despite the brilliance of Alford's return, the Lions found themselves trailing 22-6 as they headed into the halftime break.
The second half brought more action, with the Lions relentlessly striving to narrow the gap. Jonah Osborne, with a skilled leg, added to the Lions' point tally with a successful 39-yard field goal.
The Lions' passing game saw notable moments when Paul Odidi and Kolby Tanner secured short yet pinpoint touchdown passes from lefty quarterback Jamonte Gordon-West.
Dylan Alford wasn't finished with his show-stopping returns. In the second half, he broke free for another touchdown, this time covering 80 yards. Alford showcased why he's considered one of the league's most dangerous special teams talents, leaving OPSU defenders in the dust.
On the defensive front, Carlos Charleston, Xavier Garcia, Isaac Gowdy, and Isaiah Moore were the top tacklers for the Lions. Their efforts in slowing down the OPSU offense didn't go unnoticed.
Dylan Alford, with a total of 176 kickoff return yards on just three attempts, continued to shine as a standout special teams contributor.
Jamonte Gordon-West displayed his skills by completing 13 of 28 passes for 179 yards, showing his accuracy and determination on the field.
Despite the final score, the Lions left their mark with a series of thrilling plays and promising moments. With the SAC road contests behind them, the Lions look ahead to their next challenge as they return home for Homecoming. On November 11 (Saturday) at 2:00 PM, the Lions will face Texas College at Lumpkins Stadium in Waxahachie, TX, with hopes of igniting the home crowd with their fiery performance.
