Lady Lions Fall Short in Nail-Biting Clash with John Brown Golden Eagles

January 6, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - In a thrilling matchup at the Sheaffer Center, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions faced off against the top-seeded John Brown University (JBU) Golden Eagles in a highly anticipated Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) showdown on Saturday evening.

Lady Lions Review
Right from the opening tip-off, the Golden Eagles showcased their dominance, flaunting a 6-0 conference record. However, the Lady Lions exhibited resilience. Wendy Clemmons ignited the offensive fireworks with a stunning pass fake leading to a three-pointer, followed by Neeley Tilley-Bedick's own long-range bomb.

Recognizing the need for an aerial assault against the towering Golden Eagles defense, the Lady Lions strategized to capitalize on three-point opportunities. Kyla McMinn, acting as the defensive quarterback, orchestrated coverage plans that disrupted the high-scoring JBU offense, causing turnovers with her formidable post defense.

Despite McMinn's defensive efforts, the Golden Eagles managed a scoring run to close the first half, leaving the Lady Lions trailing 28-20 at halftime. Wendy Clemmons emerged as the leading scorer with nine points, boasting a flawless 3/3 shooting percentage.

The Lady Lions stormed back in the second half, fueled by impressive performances from Cailyn Tucker, Agar Farres Garcia, and Rylee Lavender. The game witnessed three lead changes in the final two minutes, epitomizing the intense battle between the two determined teams.

Kyla McMinn continued to display her hustle, diving for loose balls and inspiring her teammates to elevate their game. As the tension escalated, the Lady Lions found themselves in prime position to steal the victory. However, a last-second go-ahead attempt fell short, resulting in a heartbreaking 52-51 defeat.
