Lady Lions Battle Fiercely but Fall to Wayland Baptist

Plainview, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions showcased resilience and teamwork in a thrilling Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) road game at the Hutcherson Center against Wayland Baptist University. Despite their spirited effort, the Lady Lions fell short, with a final score of 76-66.

From the opening tip-off, the Lady Lions faced a formidable challenge against Wayland Baptist's imposing frontcourt. It was clear that the Lady Lions were prepared to counter this advantage with discipline and tenacity, battling on every possession to keep the Pioneers' size in check.

Nelson's defensive strategy hinged on unity and toughness, as the team hustled to limit Wayland's offensive rebounding opportunities. Their hard-nosed effort was especially evident in the paint, where they contested every loose ball and fought tirelessly on the boards. 

Offensively, the Lady Lions played an exciting brand of basketball, emphasizing swift ball movement and precise cuts. Flashy passes electrified their offensive sets, with crisp execution providing scoring opportunities. Neeley Tilley-Bedick led the charge with 18 points, showcasing her sharpshooting prowess, while Kate Miller contributed 13 points and grabbed six rebounds in a well-rounded performance.

At halftime, the Lady Lions trailed 35-27 but remained within striking distance. The second half saw the Lady Lions push through with renewed energy, outscoring the Pioneers in the fourth quarter. However, Wayland Baptist's consistency and depth ultimately secured their undefeated SAC record, improving to 7-0 on the season.
 

Game Highlights

Tilley-Bedick (18 points) and Miller (13 points) were supported by Kyla McMinn's 11-point effort, underscoring the team's balanced attack.

Wendy Clemmons led defensively with eight rebounds and two blocks, showing her ability to anchor the Lady Lions' effort inside.

Nelson University generated 16 second-chance points and 20 points off the bench, highlighting their depth.

The Lady Lions (2-6, 1-4 SAC) hit the road again for another SAC showdown against Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas. Tip-off is set for Tuesday, November 26, at 6:00 PM.
