Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lions electrified the Sheaffer Center on Thursday evening, securing a commanding 63-49 win over Central Christian College (Kan.) in a fiery Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup. Fueled by teamwork, resilience, and a deep bench, the Lady Lions now hold a 3-7 overall record and a 2-5 mark in SAC play.
The Lady Lions wasted no time establishing their dominance, jumping out to an early lead. Autumn Moore and Ashley Gonzalez fueled the offense, combining for 24 points on the night. With relentless energy on both ends of the court, the Lady Lions outscored Central Christian 17-11 in the first quarter and extended their lead to 36-26 by halftime. Gonzalez's sharpshooting from beyond the arc (4-for-9) helped Nelson maintain momentum, while Kyla McMinn crashed the boards, tallying eight rebounds.
The third quarter saw a slight offensive slowdown for the Lady Lions, but their defense remained steadfast. Wendy Clemmons anchored the effort with 11 rebounds and 4 assists, while Paris Miller added critical steals and second-chance opportunities. Despite shooting just 15% in the quarter, Nelson managed to hold Central Christian to a narrow 15-point frame, keeping their lead intact.
As the fourth quarter rolled around, the Lady Lions showcased their depth and determination. Paris Miller's tenacity on the boards (15 rebounds) and key contributions off the bench led to 31 points from non-starters. Nelson's largest lead of 17 points came midway through the fourth quarter, sealing the win in front of an energetic home crowd of 211 fans.
