SAGU Lady Lions Stumble in Doubleheader Against Southwestern Christian

March 15, 2024

Bethany, OK - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions softball team endured a challenging evening as they faced off against the Southwestern Christian University (SCU) Eagles in a doubleheader at Bethany, Oklahoma. In a series opener that promised excitement, the Lady Lions fought hard but ultimately succumbed to the Eagles' relentless onslaught.

Game 1
The first game saw the Lady Lions fall in a nail-biting 6-5 encounter against Southwestern Christian. Despite their best efforts, SAGU couldn't quite overcome their opponents. Sasha Jennings led the offensive charge, going 2 for 4 with a crucial double and an RBI. Trista Ford also made her presence felt, contributing with a 2 for 5 performance and notching 2 RBIs. Makinzy Kneip added to the offensive effort, going 3 for 4 with a double and crossing the plate twice. Kaeli Lynn showcased her skills by going 1 for 4, scoring twice and tallying 2 RBIs. On the mound, Natalie Zamora put up a valiant effort, enduring 10.2 innings and striking out 10, despite ultimately being saddled with the loss.

Game 2
The second game proved to be a tougher challenge for the Lady Lions, as they were shut out in a 10-0 defeat. Despite some individual highlights, including McKenzie Schulze's 2 for 2 effort and Brooke Kinnibrugh's 1 for 1 performance, the team couldn't generate enough momentum to overcome their opponents. Trista Ford faced a tough outing on the mound, going 3 innings and allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits, while Annie Charanza's relief stint was also met with resistance, conceding 6 earned runs on 4 hits in just .2 innings.

Looking Ahead
Despite the setbacks, the Lady Lions remain determined as they prepare to conclude the conference series with a road doubleheader in Bethany, Oklahoma. With their sights set on redemption, they'll aim to bounce back in the upcoming matchups scheduled for 12 PM & 2 PM.
