Lady Lions Split Doubleheader with TXWES in Fort Worth

March 23, 2024

Fort Worth, TX - The clash between crosstown rivals, the Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions and the Texas Wesleyan University (TXWES) Rams, ignited the softball diamond in a doubleheader showdown to kick off their conference series Saturday evenings

Game 1
Despite a valiant effort, the Lady Lions stumbled in the opening game, succumbing to a 10-4 defeat against Texas Wesleyan. Sasha Jennings showcased her prowess at the plate, going 2 for 3 with a double and crossing home plate. Makinzy Kneip and Madyson Wiggins fueled the offense, each contributing with doubles and RBIs. Despite Natalie Zamora's resilient effort on the mound, the Lions couldn't contain the Rams' offensive onslaught, ultimately falling short.

Game 2
Determined to even the score, the Lady Lions bounced back in spectacular fashion, clinching a 5-2 victory in the second game. Sasha Jennings continued her offensive dominance, while Trista Ford and Cadence Hopgood delivered clutch hits, propelling SAGU to redemption. Valerie Guzman showcased her pitching prowess, stifling the Rams' offense with a stellar complete-game performance, securing the win for the Lions.

Looking Ahead
With their spirits high the Lady Lions eagerly anticipate the final showdown against Texas Wesleyan on March 24. As the battle rages on in Fort Worth, Texas, SAGU remains steadfast in their quest to emerge victorious and claim bragging rights over their cross-town rivals.
