A Senior Night to Remember As Lady Lions Sweep Southwestern Christian

October 24, 2025

Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions volleyball team returned home to the Sheaffer Center on Friday night for a special Senior Night matchup against Southwestern Christian University. The gym was draped in purple pride as fans filled the stands to celebrate Nelson's senior class; Maci Sons, Samantha Moore, Taylor Cavazos, Alexandra Bonnett, and Team Chaplain Gracie Boone, who have each left an unmistakable mark on the program both on and off the court.

From the opening serve, the Lady Lions set the tone and never looked back, sweeping the Eagles in straight sets (25–11, 25–21, 25–9) to secure their 16th win of the season and improve to 14–2 in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

First Set
The Lions came out firing behind the energy of a roaring Sheaffer Center crowd, feeding off the pregame ceremony's emotion. Samantha Moore led the way early, striking with precision and poise while the Lions' front row defense set the tone. Nelson jumped ahead quickly and dominated the opener 25–11, establishing control and confidence from the start.

Second Set
Set two turned into a brief cat-and-mouse chase. Southwestern Christian found rhythm from the service line and kept things tight midway through, but Nelson's senior leadership settled the storm. Setter Taylor Cavazos orchestrated a balanced attack, dishing out 26 assists on the night, while Addison Standley and Alexandra Bonnett combined for powerful kills that reignited the crowd. Nelson closed strong to take the second frame 25–21.

Third Set
With the celebration in sight, the Lady Lions locked in and delivered one of their cleanest sets of the year. Caroline Boone and Hope Jones were unstoppable at the net, while Maci Sons and Taylor Felux anchored the defense. Nelson stormed through the third set 25–9, sealing the sweep in dominant fashion.

By the Numbers
