Waxahachie, TX — A light drizzle couldn't dampen the fire of the Nelson University Lions on Saturday afternoon as they powered past Wayland Baptist University, 3–0, in a commanding Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) performance at the Lions Athletic Complex. The win adds another clean sheet to Nelson's growing résumé as the postseason approaches.
After a sluggish, weather-soaked morning, the Lions found their spark midway through the first half. In the 24th minute, Joel Palmer opened the scoring with a composed finish off a slick assist from Omolemo Matla, setting the tone for a physical and energetic matchup.
The second half belonged entirely to the Lions' midfield and attacking unit. In the 65th minute, Matla doubled the lead, this time flipping roles as he finished a precise feed from Garey Mills. Later, with Wayland pushing numbers forward, Nelson iced the match when Teddy Nkamanyi found the back of the net in the 86th minute off a sharp cross from Isaiah Borjon, sealing the 3–0 shutout.
Nelson outshot Wayland 15–5 and controlled possession throughout, creating constant pressure in the attacking third. The backline, anchored by Pascoal Manuel, David Ospina, and Javaughn Hines, was airtight, holding the Pioneers to just one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Amir Raime was solid once again, recording the clean sheet with a key first-half save
