Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions returned to the Sheaffer Center on Friday night with energy and focus sweeping Central Christian College in straight sets (25-9, 25-12, 25-17) to open their homestand in convincing fashion.
From the start of warmups to the first serve, it was clear the Lady Lions were locked in. Nelson's balanced attack kept the Tigers scrambling, with four different players tallying at least five kills. Addison Standley led the charge with 10 kills while hitting a blistering .529. Alexandra Bonnett followed closely, posting six kills and a team-high seven service aces to spark scoring runs that kept Central Christian out of rhythm.
Setter Cassidy Hargesheimer orchestrated the offense beautifully, dishing out 15 assists and adding three aces of her own. Samantha Moore proved nearly unstoppable at the net, recording five kills on a .556 hitting percentage while also chipping in defensively with three block assists. Mackenzie Smith rounded out the frontline effort with seven kills and two block assists.
Defensively, the Lady Lions were just as sharp, with libero Taylor Cavazos steadying the back row and helping Nelson hold Central Christian to a low .053 hitting percentage on the night. The Tigers never found their footing, as Nelson controlled the tempo in every set.
The sweep not only pushes the Lady Lions to 11-8 overall and 9-1 in Sooner Athletic Conference play, but also sends a message that the Sheaffer Center is a tough place to come in and steal a win.
