Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson University Lady Lions opened the 2025–26 season with an electric performance, rolling past Hesston College 94–38 on Friday evening inside the Sheaffer Center. The win marked a dominant start to the season as part of the Nelson University Basketball Classic, showcasing the Lady Lions' depth, energy, and fast-paced style of play.
Nelson wasted no time setting the tone. A 33–8 first quarter fueled by sharpshooting and stifling defense put the game out of reach early. The Lady Lions shot nearly 50% from the field (36–73) and forced 11 turnovers, turning them into 20 fast-break points.
The Lions' offense was a showcase of balance and unselfish play. Cailyn Tucker led the way with 17 points and 8 assists, orchestrating a high-tempo offense that kept Hesston scrambling. Abby Boyce controlled the paint with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Ashley Gonzalez added 12 points on four three-pointers. Paris Miller (13 pts) and Lauryn Scalice (11 pts) provided additional sparks, and Kate Miller contributed 7 points, 4 rebounds, and steady leadership from the frontcourt.
Nelson's bench poured in 42 points, showcasing the team's depth and versatility. The Lions also owned the glass with 53 total rebounds and racked up 23 assists on 36 made field goals. Defensively, they held Hesston to just 20% shooting from the floor and 4-of-20 from three-point range, never allowing the Larks to find rhythm.
