Lady Lions Open SAC Play With Toughness Against No. 10 Langston

Waxahachie, Texas | November 20, 2025 — The Nelson University Lady Lions stepped onto their home floor Thursday night ready to measure themselves against one of the nation's best, welcoming the No. 10 Langston Lions to the Sheaffer Center for the Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) opener.

Behind an early flurry of three-pointers from Langston, the visitors set a quick tone, but Nelson responded with grit, poise, and timely shot-making of their own. The Lady Lions weathered the first punch and countered with a spark from junior guard Lauryn Scalice, who buried a pair of first-quarter threes to keep Nelson tight in the early stretches.

Langston's nationally ranked firepower, however, proved consistent across four quarters. Their attack from deep, 14 made threes as a team created tough defensive rotations all night. Alexandria Jefferson's shot-making and Alyssa Parmer's second-half surge helped Langston build a lead that Nelson battled to chip away at.

Despite the deficit, the Lady Lions showed late-game toughness and energy, turning the fourth quarter into their strongest frame. Freshman guard Paris Miller delivered a confident, downhill performance with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting, slicing through the defense and knocking down timely threes when Nelson needed momentum most. Scalice added another burst with 15 points, including three triples, continuing her efficient outside shooting night .

In the frontcourt, Ashley Gonzalez anchored the effort with 8 rebounds and 5 assists, battling on the glass and facilitating Nelson's best offensive stretches. Off the bench, Kora Huff injected energy with 6 points and 4 rebounds, finishing strong around the rim and helping push the pace late.

Nelson's fourth-quarter push, winning the final period 18–13 was fueled by toughness, defensive stands, and renewed offensive rhythm. The Lady Lions forced turnovers, attacked in transition, and refused to ease up against a Top-10 opponent.

Ultimately, Langston's hot perimeter shooting lifted them to a 75–56 victory, but Nelson walked away with valuable conference reps, a strong finish, and momentum to build on as SAC play continues.
