Lady Lions Battle, but Fall in Hard-Fought Doubleheader Against MACU

March 6, 2025

Waxahachie, TX  – The Nelson University Lady Lions showed resilience and grit in their doubleheader against Mid-America Christian University (MACU) at the Lions Athletic Complex. Despite a valiant effort, Nelson fell just short in both contests, dropping Game 1 by a score of 0-1 and Game 2 in a tight 1-2 battle.

Game 1
The opener of the doubleheader was a classic pitcher's duel, with Nelson's Natalie Zamora delivering a masterful performance in the circle. She tossed a complete game, allowing just one unearned run on one hit, striking out three while keeping MACU off balance all afternoon.

However, despite five hits from the Lady Lions' lineup, including a double from Trista Ford, the offensive breakthrough never came. The lone run of the game crossed in the fifth inning when a MACU baserunner took advantage of a miscue in the outfield. Nelson had its opportunities, but MACU's pitcher, C. Wolfe, managed to shut the door, striking out six and stranding multiple Lady Lions on base.

Game 2
The Lady Lions wasted no time getting on the board in Game 2, with Avery Coleman sparking the offense with a leadoff triple in the second inning. Moments later, Marcella Bryan's sacrifice fly brought Coleman home, giving Nelson a 1-0 lead.

That lead held until the sixth inning, when MACU finally broke through, scoring on a miscue in the outfield to tie things up at 1-1. Nelson starter Trinity Muhle battled fiercely, tossing seven innings, scattering 10 hits, and allowing only one earned run.

With the score tied heading into the final frame, MACU managed to plate the go-ahead run on an RBI single, taking a 2-1 lead. The Lady Lions made a push in the bottom of the seventh when Brooke Kinnibrugh singled and advanced to third, but Nelson couldn't bring her home.

What's Next?

The Lady Lions will look to bounce back in another conference showdown on Friday, March 7, against MACU, with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM at the Lions Athletic Complex in Waxahachie, TX. #WhereLionsFindTheirRoar
