Waxahachie, TX — The Nelson University Lions brought the brooms out at the Lions Athletic Complex on Thursday, taking the front end of a conference doubleheader against Central Christian College (Kan.) in dominant fashion.
Game 1 (5 innings)
Behind a lights-out performance from freshman Natalie Zamora, the Lions exploded for a 7-run third inning en route to a run-rule victory in Game 1. Zamora earned the win in the circle, tossing a complete-game two-hitter with 6 strikeouts and no walks.
Offensively, Nelson spread the love across the lineup. Cylee Panell delivered a clutch 2-RBI single in the third, while Marcella Bryan smacked a double to drive in another. Sasha Jennings notched two hits and a stolen base, and Trista Ford added a sacrifice fly to cap the scoring. Nelson's defense was sharp, committing just one error while forcing Central Christian into missed opportunities.
Game 2
The Lions continued their shutout streak in Game 2 behind another dominant pitching effort—this time from Trinity Muhle, who scattered three hits and fanned eight in a complete-game gem.
Nelson jumped ahead early with two runs in the second, fueled by Panell's RBI single and a miscue that allowed another run to score. Panell stayed hot, finishing 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs. Madyson Wiggins also notched two hits and scored twice, while Cadence Hopgood added two singles of her own. Jennings stole another base and scored on an error in the fourth to help seal the win.
The sweep improves Nelson to 17-24 overall, continuing their push in conference play with strong momentum.
