Waxahachie, Texas - Nelson Softball battled fiercely through Monday's SAC doubleheader at the Waxahachie Athletic Complex, earning a 6-2 win in Game One before falling just short, 9-8, in an extra-inning thriller against Oklahoma Panhandle State.
Game OneÂ
Senior right-hander Natalie Zamora tossed a complete game gem, allowing just two earned runs on five hits to pick up her second win of the season. The Lions backed her with a four-run fourth inning, fueled by RBI singles from Avery Coleman and Marcella Bryan.
Madyson Wiggins stayed hot at the plate, going 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Sasha Jennings sparked the offense with two hits, two stolen bases, and a run scored.Â
Game Two
In a high-octane Game Two, Nelson erased an early 6-0 deficit and forced extra innings, but a bunt single and a passed ball in the eighth inning proved decisive for the Aggies.
Wiggins had a monster performance at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a home run and 5 RBIs, including a game-tying single in the seventh. Trista Ford added three hits and Brooke Kinnibrugh chipped in a hit, a walk, and two runs scored. Nelson matched OPSU with 10 hits but left the tying run stranded in the bottom of the ninth.
With the split, the Lions move to 11-20 on the season. They'll look to bounce back quickly as they host Oklahoma Panhandle State again for a doubleheader tomorrow, April 8, beginning at 12 PM at the Waxahachie Athletic Complex.
