Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions men's soccer team showed fight on their home turf Tuesday evening, but visiting Texas A&M–San Antonio capitalized on their chances to hand Nelson a 3–1 loss at the Lions Athletic Complex.
TAMU–San Antonio grabbed the momentum early with two first-half goals. Joey De La Torre opened the scoring in the 25th minute, finishing a feed from Joshua Olivares. Just eight minutes later, Ronald Aguilar doubled the lead off an assist from Jacob Olivares, and the Jaguars carried a 2–0 cushion into the break.
The Lions weren't going quietly. Just after halftime, Joel Palmer brought Nelson back into the match with a well-timed strike in the 46th minute, cutting the deficit to 2–1 and igniting the home crowd. Nelson kept pressing and generated six total shots on the night, but couldn't quite find the equalizer.
In the 55th minute, Aguilar struck again for his second goal of the contest, restoring TAMU–San Antonio's two-goal advantage. From there, the Jaguars' defense held firm, and goalkeeper Dominic Pena closed out the win with a one-save performance.
