Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions men's soccer team defended their home turf in style on Saturday evening, powering past Our Lady of the Lake University with a 3–1 victory at the Lions Athletic Complex.
The Lions showed composure early, absorbing OLLU's initial pressure before breaking through in the 27th minute. Joel Palmer opened the scoring with a clinical finish, set up by a sharp assist from Sergio Lopez Garcia, to give Nelson a 1–0 lead.
Coming out of the halftime huddle, the Lions wasted no time seizing control. Just two minutes into the second half, Palmer struck again, this time off a setup from Javaughn Hines to double the advantage.
The momentum only grew stronger as substitute Omolemo Matla buried Nelson's third goal in the 49th minute, thanks to a perfectly timed assist from Teddy Nkamanyi.
OLLU pulled one back in the 77th minute when Oli White converted off a feed from Cade Ryan, but by then the Lions had already stamped their authority on the match. Anchored by goalkeeper Amir Raime, who tallied two saves and commanded the back line, Nelson closed the door to secure the 3–1 win.
Statistically, the Lions were sharp, firing 13 shots (6 on goal) while limiting OLLU to just 8 total attempts. Palmer's brace and Matla's impact goal highlighted a balanced attack that saw three different players involved in the scoring column.
