Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions men's soccer team went toe-to-toe with Southwestern Christian University (SCU) in a Sooner Athletic Conference clash on Tuesday night at the Lions Athletic Complex, battling their way to a 1–1 draw in front of a lively home crowd.
The match unfolded as a physical, back-and-forth contest, with both sides trading heavy challenges and moments of brilliance. After a scoreless first half that saw the Lions fend off five SCU shots, Nelson broke the deadlock in the 61st minute. Forward Teddy Nkamanyi made his mark, burying his first career goal after a sharp assist from Alejandro Herrera, sending the home bench into a frenzy.
The Lions leaned on their backline anchored by Javaughn Hines, Francisco Nava, and goalkeeper Yahir Perez to absorb pressure as SCU ramped up their attack. Perez was steady, recording a key first-half save and directing traffic in the box.
But SCU's persistence finally broke through in the 81st minute when Vinicuius Cruz slotted home the equalizer off a feed from Romeo De Stefano.
From there, the final 10 minutes were a tense scramble, highlighted by desperate defending, a flurry of yellow cards, and a near-miss from Nelson's Landon Exley, who narrowly lifted two shots over the crossbar in the closing minutes.
Both squads closed the night deadlocked, each registering a goal, seven-plus shots, and a share of frustration. The Lions finished with seven total shots, two on goal and matched SCU in corner kicks (4–4), but 17 fouls and late cautions made it a hard-fought grind.
