Waxahachie, TX – After riding the high of clinching the Sooner Athletic Conference regular-season championship Tuesday with a victory over Texas Wesleyan, the Lady Lions still have some unfinished business in the regular season. Nelson continued its dominant run, taking complete control against the Central Christian Tigers in an impressive 3-0 sweep.
The Lady Lions were in the driver's seat throughout the entire match, giving the Tigers little opportunity to gain any momentum. Nelson kept Central Christian's scoring to a minimum, allowing just 34 total points across all three sets, with the Tigers failing to reach the 15-point mark in any set. The Lady Lions took the opening set 25-12, followed by an even more dominant 25-8 victory in the second, before closing out the sweep with a 25-14 win in the third and final set.
Due to the sheer dominance of the Lady Lions and the quick nature of the sweep, Nelson's individual statistics were lower than usual, but the team still put together an impressive performance.
Offensively, the Lady Lions had their way with the Tigers, as Central Christian's defense struggled to keep up with Nelson's attack.
Mackenzie Smith continued her dominant run on the court, leading the team with 7 kills, followed by
Caroline Boone with 5 and
Keara Savory-Calbo with 4.
Cassidy Hargesheimer had an impressive all-around performance, leading the Lady Lions in three statistical categories. Hargesheimer tallied 3 service aces, 11 digs, and 9 assists, making her presence felt in nearly every aspect of the match.
Several freshmen also made their mark in the victory.
Sawyer Pontin and
Camdyn Owen took complete control at the net, with Pontin recording an impressive 5 total blocks and Owen adding 3 of her own.
Abby Fisher also got in on the action, contributing 2 service aces to help fuel Nelson's offensive attack.
Defensively, the Lady Lions continued to limit the Tigers' opportunities.
Taylor Felux and
Chloe Munoz each tallied 6 digs, while
Mackenzie Smith showed her versatility, adding 4 blocks to go along with her team-leading 7 kills.
Nelson Volleyball continues to roll, extending its incredible winning streak to 22 consecutive matches. The Lady Lions also remain perfect in Sooner Athletic Conference play with a 19-0 record, sitting just one victory away from reaching an impressive 20-0 mark in conference action.
