May 6, 2026 | Waxahachie, TX — The momentum continues for the Nelson University Track & Field program as two Lions were recognized by the Sooner Athletic Conference for their standout performances against elite competition this past weekend.
On the men's side, junior thrower Ishmeal Ealoms was named the SAC Digital Scoreboards Men's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week after a strong showing at the SMU Invitational. Competing against a field filled with NCAA Division I talent, Ealoms delivered another impressive performance in the discus, recording a throw of 49.34 meters to place sixth overall while continuing to build momentum heading toward postseason competition.
The honor marks yet another milestone in what has been a historic season for the Lions men's squad, who recently captured the 2026 SAC Outdoor Track & Field Championship for the first conference title in program history.
On the women's side, Jaylyn Kechter earned SAC Digital Scoreboards Women's Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honors following a breakthrough performance of her own at the SMU Invitational. Kechter posted a throw of 41.36 meters in the discus, placing eighth against a loaded field of NCAA Division I and II athletes while scoring valuable points for Nelson.
Kechter's recognition continues a dominant stretch for the Lady Lions, who also secured the 2026 SAC Women's Outdoor Track & Field Championship, completing a historic conference sweep for Nelson Track & Field.
The weekly honors reflect the continued rise of Nelson Track & Field on both the conference and national stage. Whether competing inside the SAC or against top NCAA programs, the Lions continue proving they belong among the nation's best.
With championship season approaching, Nelson will now turn its focus toward national qualifiers and postseason competition as the Lions look to carry their record-breaking season onto the national stage.
