Waxahachie, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lions battled throughout 90 minutes Tuesday night but ultimately fell 1-0 to Texas A&M University-Victoria at the Lions Athletic Complex.
The Lady Lions controlled much of the offensive pressure early, recording eight shots in the opening half while limiting A&M-Victoria to four attempts. Nelson created several quality opportunities in the first half, including a pair of shots from Daisy Ruiz and attempts from Jaylene Bosquez and Lizeth Moreno that were saved by Jaguars.
Nelson continued to apply pressure after halftime. Moreno and Bosquez each put shots on target in the opening minutes of the second half, while Ruiz added another shot on goal in the 62nd minute.
Despite Nelson's offensive pressure, A&M-Victoria's defense continued to hold firm.Â
The match remained scoreless until the 85th minute, when A&M-Victoria broke through with the game's lone goal at the 85:51 mark. This goal gave the Jaguars a 1-0 advantage with just over four minutes remaining.
Nelson pushed forward in the closing minutes but was unable to find the equalizer, as A&M-Victoria held on for the victory.
The Lady Lions finished the match with an 11-6 advantage in shots and put seven attempts on target. Delaney Murphy made two saves in goal for Nelson, while Ruiz led the Lady Lions with three shots and two shots on goal. Bosquez and Moreno each added two shots on target.
With the result, Nelson falls to 0-2-0 on the season.

The Lady Lions will look to bounce back on Saturday, September 5, when they return home to face Jarvis Christian University at the Lions Athletic Complex. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 PM.
