SAGU Lady Lions Soccer Team Secures Spot in 2023 NCCAA DI Women's Soccer National Championship

November 19, 2023

Waxahachie, TX - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions Soccer team is set to make history as they clinch a spot in the prestigious 2023 NCCAA DI Women's Soccer National Championship. The stage is set at the Austin-Tindall Sports Complex in Kissimmee, FL, where the Lady Lions will compete against top-tier teams from around the nation.

The journey to the national championship began with the completion of the Regional Championship playoffs. Following intense matches and displays of exceptional skill on the field, the NCCAA tournament committee carefully selected the At-Large Selections for the Division I Women's Soccer National Championship, finalizing the roster of teams that will vie for the coveted title.

What sets the NCCAA tournament apart is not only the high level of competition but also the commitment to community service. As part of the Christian Service Project, SAGU Lady Lions student-athletes will be actively involved in caring for at-risk children, prison inmates, and the homeless in the local community. This initiative reflects the university's dedication to instilling values of compassion, responsibility, and community engagement in its student-athletes.

In the spirit of giving back, each student-athlete is encouraged to bring a toy, contributing to the joy of at-risk kids during the holiday season. Additionally, each participating team is tasked with donating 20 pairs of socks for children and 10 pairs for adults, aiming to address the immediate needs of the less fortunate in the community.

The NCCAA tournament promises not only exciting soccer matches but also a platform for student-athletes to make a positive impact beyond the field. By participating in the Christian Service Project, the Lady Lions are not only showcasing their athletic prowess but also embodying the principles of service and empathy that go hand in hand with the values of the university.

The tournament action kicks off with pool play starting on Monday, November 27, and concludes on Wednesday, November 29. The teams will battle fiercely for a chance to advance to the Championship game, which is slated for Friday, December 1. The winner of each pool will go head-to-head in a thrilling showdown to determine the 2023 NCCAA DI Women's Soccer National Champion.

As the SAGU Lady Lions Soccer team heads to Kissimmee, FL, they carry not only the hopes and dreams of their university but also a commitment to making a positive impact both on and off the field. The journey to the national championship is more than a quest for a trophy; it is an opportunity for these student-athletes to shine as beacons of sportsmanship, teamwork, and compassion.
