Mesquite, TX - The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Lady Lions softball team kicked off the Mesquite Invitational in style, securing a commanding 2-0 victory over Oklahoma Wesleyan University in an electrifying opening game on February 9, 2024.

In a matchup defined by stellar pitching and clutch hitting, Madyson Wiggins ignited the Lady Lions' offense with a towering solo home run, setting the tone for a thrilling contest. Makinzy Kneip and Cadence Hopgood also made crucial contributions at the plate, each recording hits to propel the Lady Lions to victory.
However, it was Natalie Zamora's masterful performance on the mound that stole the show. Zamora delivered a complete game shutout, showcasing precision and poise as she stifled the opposition with her pitching prowess. With just 79 pitches, Zamora struck out three batters while issuing only one walk, cementing her status as a dominant force in the circle.
Despite their strong start, the Lady Lions faced a setback in game two, falling to York University in a hard-fought 6-3 battle.
