Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lions Track & Field team is thrilled to announce the return of David Cox as the Associate Head Coach. Cox, whose impressive track record speaks volumes, brings a wealth of experience and success back to the Lions' program.

Accomplishments and Highlights
Texas Wesleyan University (2024)

Indoor: Coached a national champion in the 60m hurdles, a national runner-up in triple jump, and set 5 school records.

Outdoor: Guided athletes to a national championship in the 110m hurdles, multiple national qualifiers, and SAC conference championships for both men and women. Earned USTFCCCA Regional Assistant Coach of the Year.
Nelson University (2023)

Indoor: Led athletes to school records, national championships, and NAIA qualifying marks.

Outdoor: Coached multiple conference champions, all-conference performers, and national qualifiers, contributing significantly to team points at the SAC Championships.
Previous Experience
Before his successful tenure at Nelson University, Coach Cox served as an assistant head track coach and football coach at DeSoto HS, Maypearl HS, Red Oak HS, and Waxahachie HS for 28 years. He has a rich history of coaching regional and state qualifiers, including notable athletes like Jalen Reagor and Brandal Lawrence.
A graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, Cox was an all-conference performer in track and field. He is a USTFCCCA-certified Jumps Coach Specialist and holds USTFCCCA technical certification.
Coach Cox and his wife, Misty, reside in Waxahachie and are proud parents to two grown daughters, Kelsie and Lauren. With Coach Cox's return, the Lions Track & Field team is set to continue its tradition of excellence and aim for new heights in the upcoming seasons.
