Record-Breaker Latrel Davis Headlines First-Ever Home Meet with SAC Weekly Honor

Waxahachie, TX | March 20, 2026 — History was already in the air at the Lions Athletic Complex. Latrel Davis made sure it stayed there.

For the first time in Nelson University history, the Track & Field program hosted a meet on its home surface, welcoming programs from across the region for the 2026 Nelson Invitational. From the first throw in the morning to the final race under the evening sky, the atmosphere carried something different. Pride. Ownership. A statement that Nelson Track & Field has arrived.

And in the middle of that moment stood Latrel Davis.

When the runway cleared and the crowd locked in, Davis delivered the defining performance of the day. With speed, rhythm, and explosion, he attacked the board and soared to a 7.05-meter mark in the long jump, shattering the Nelson University program record. It was a jump that didn't just win the event. It stamped a new standard.

But Davis wasn't done.

He returned to the field and added another dominant performance, clearing 1.92 meters in the high jump to secure a second first-place finish. Two events. Two wins. One unforgettable performance on the biggest stage the program has ever hosted.

Moments like this define programs. And performances like this define athletes.

For his record-breaking, meet-defining effort, Latrel Davis has been named the Sooner Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week, becoming a centerpiece of one of the most historic days in Nelson Track & Field history.
