Waxahachie, TX — October 25, 2025 | The Nelson University Lady Lions returned to action Saturday evening in a Sooner Athletic Conference (SAC) matchup, defeating Wayland Baptist University 2–0 under the lights at Life High School Waxahachie.

From the opening whistle, the Lady Lions came out firing, the stands were rocking, the energy was epic, and Nelson wasted no time setting the tone.

It took less than two minutes for Nelson to break through. Daisy Altamirano found Stephanie Hernandez streaking through the middle, and Hernandez buried the shot for the first goal of the night at the 1:53 mark, igniting the crowd and putting the Lady Lions ahead early.

The Lady Lions controlled possession throughout the half, racking up seven shots and four corner kicks while holding Wayland to zero attempts on goal. Midfielders Ansley Meza and Damaris Solis kept the attack flowing, while the back line anchored by Mackenzie Gonzalez, Mia Sevilla, and Monika Olivares kept the Pioneers in check.

In the 60th minute, sophomore Ashanti Avellaneda doubled the lead with a composed finish off an assist from Damaris Solis, making it 2–0 Nelson. The Lady Lions' defense did the rest, denying every Wayland push and limiting them to just three total shots on the evening.

Goalkeeper Delaney Murphy was sharp in net, recording two key saves to secure a clean sheet.

Nelson outshot Wayland 10–3 and earned seven corner kicks while committing just two fouls. Hernandez and Avellaneda each scored once, while Altamirano and Solis added assists in a complete team effort.
