Lions Stay Hot: Nelson University Battles Past Central Christian on the Road

McPherson, KS – The Nelson University Lions showcased their resilience and firepower Thursday night, securing a thrilling 75-69 road win over the Central Christian Tigers in a Sooner Athletic Conference battle. 

From the opening tip, the Lions (18-6, 16-4 SAC) established their presence, setting the tone for a competitive contest. With both teams trading baskets throughout the first half, Nelson carried a narrow 32-29 lead into the break. 

The second half saw the Lions elevate their efficiency, shooting an impressive 51.7% from the field. Clutch plays down the stretch solidified their advantage, fending off a late Tigers surge.
 

Key Stats and Performances

Justin Collins led the way with a standout 15 points, hitting 2-of-3 from beyond the arc and contributing 5 rebounds.  

Micah Clark played a crucial role, grabbing 4 rebounds and adding 5 points, despite battling foul trouble.  

Bench Depth was a game-changer, as Nelson's reserves outscored Central Christian's bench 35-4.  

Despite Central Christian's 28-point explosion from Jevarrick Butler, the Lions' defensive composure and ability to capitalize on second-chance opportunities (10 points) made the difference.

The Lions continue their road trip, heading to Langston, OK, to face Langston University on Saturday, February 8, at 4:00 PM. With momentum on their side, Nelson looks to extend their winning streak in another pivotal SAC matchup.
