Mesquite, TX - The Nelson University Lady Lions showed grit and determination in their second day of the NAIA Invitational Tournament, but despite a strong start, they fell in both matchups against Oklahoma Wesleyan and Cottey College.
Game 1
The Lady Lions came out aggressive, striking first with a run in the opening inning. Sasha Jennings showcased her speed, stealing a base and scoring to give Nelson an early lead. Trista Ford and Cadence Hopgood kept the bats alive, with Ford driving in a run and Hopgood plating two RBIs in the fifth.
However, Oklahoma Wesleyan's offense proved relentless, using a four-run first inning and a six-run fourth to pull away. Trinity Muhle battled on the mound, but the Eagles' bats were too much, as they racked up 16 hits in just five innings.
Game 2
Nelson looked poised for a bounce-back victory, storming out of the gates with three runs in the first inning. Sasha Jennings led off with a triple, and Makinzy Kneip doubled her home before Madyson Wiggins smashed a two-RBI double to give the Lady Lions early momentum.
However, Cottey College methodically chipped away, tying the game in the fourth and taking the lead in the fifth. A three-run sixth inning sealed the win for the Comets, as Nelson couldn't muster another late comeback.
