Chickasha, OK – The Nelson University Lady Lions took the field in Chickasha, Oklahoma, on Monday, looking to bounce back in a conference doubleheader against the University of Science and Arts (Okla.). Despite gritty performances and strong defensive moments, the Lady Lions fell in both matchups, unable to break through against a tough Drovers pitching staff.
Game 1
In a game dominated by pitching, Nelson University put forth a strong defensive effort, keeping the contest within reach until the final innings. Sophomore Valerie Guzman delivered a solid performance in the circle, tossing a complete game, allowing just five hits and two earned runs while striking out one. The Lady Lions' bats struggled to generate consistent offense against Science and Arts' ace Sophie Williams, who fanned 14 batters in a complete-game shutout.
Trista Ford provided a highlight for Nelson with a double in the fourth inning, but the Lady Lions were unable to capitalize on the opportunity. Science and Arts managed to push across a run in the fourth and another in the fifth, sealing a 2-0 defeat for Nelson in a tightly contested opener.
Game 2
The Lady Lions looked to rebound in the second game of the series, displaying resilience at the plate with seven hits. However, key scoring opportunities slipped away as Nelson left 13 runners on base. Science and Arts took control in the later innings, breaking a scoreless tie with a two-run fourth inning before adding four more in the sixth to secure a 6-0 victory.
Avery Coleman and Marcella Bryan each recorded two hits, while Trista Ford added her second double of the day. In the circle, Natalie Zamora battled through four innings, allowing just one earned run before turning the ball over to Macie Blizzard and Braylei Pylant. Despite their combined efforts, the Drovers capitalized on timely hits and aggressive baserunning to close out the game.
