Plainview, TX - The Nelson University Lions split Thursday's doubleheader against Wayland Baptist in Plainview, Texas, showcasing resilience and firepower in Game 2 after a narrow loss in the opener.
Game 1
Despite a strong outing from pitcher Natalie Zamora, who allowed just three hits and struck out four across 6.2 innings, the Lions couldn't break through offensively. Sasha Jennings recorded a double, one of only two Nelson hits in the game. The lone run came in the bottom of the seventh, giving Wayland the walk-off win. Â
Game 2
Game 2 was a different story—an offensive explosion powered the Lions to their 20th win of the season. Brooke Kinnibrugh led the way with a 3-for-4 performance, driving in two runs and scoring three times. Cadence Hopgood added three hits and two RBIs, while Cylee Panell also plated two. Nelson put up 7 runs in the fourth inning to blow the game open. Valerie Guzman pitched three shutout innings in relief to earn the win, improving to 5-1 on the season. The Lions pounded out 12 hits and drew 7 walks in the win. Â
