Waxahachie, TX - Nelson University is proud to announce the hiring of Madeline Caveney as the new Head Cheer Coach. A spirit filled leader with a deep background in cheer and dance, Coach Caveney joins the Nelson community alongside her husband, Michael who is an assistant baseball coach at the university, and their newborn baby.
A native of North Carolina, Coach Caveney brings a unique blend of administrative, athletic, and mentoring experience to her new role. In the cheer realm she most recently served as a judge and consultant for Howard Payne University Cheer and has taught cheer and dance to students aged 6–25. Her resume includes time as a member and Chaplain of the 2x National Champion UMHB Sader Belle Dance Team at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, an experience that shaped her both as a performer and a leader.
Beyond the sidelines, Coach Caveney is a seasoned educator and team builder. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Allied Health Exercise Science from Howard Payne University in 2024, where she was named to the President's List, served as a student government representative, and was recognized in "Who's Who" among students. She also holds a degree in Biology/Pre-Med from UMHB.
Her experience includes roles in healthcare as an orthopedic tech, medical assistant, and patient care coordinator completing roles that have sharpened her attention to detail, communication, and service mindset. She's also worked as a Pilates instructor and event coordinator, often combining her fitness expertise with community engagement.
Coach Caveney's approach to student-athlete development, combined with her technical cheer and dance training, makes her an exciting addition to the Nelson Athletics family. Her energy and ability to connect across generations are sure to elevate the spirit and standard of our cheer program.
