Waxahachie, TX – The Nelson University Lady Lions women's soccer team squared off against a tough Our Lady of the Lake University squad on Saturday evening, at the Lions Athletic Complex. In a tough battle under the lights, the Lady Lions struck early to even the score but ultimately fell 3–1 to the visiting Saints.
OLLU wasted no time setting the tone as Eleonora Diversi found the back of the net in the 6th minute to give the Saints a 1–0 edge.
Nelson answered with determination, and just over twelve minutes later, Stephanie Hernandez delivered a highlight moment of her own. Stephanie Hernandez powered through and fired a shot that leveled the contest 1–1 in the 19th minute, bringing the home crowd to its feet.
From that point, the match turned into a defensive grind, anchored by standout goalkeeper Delaney Murphy, who faced a relentless barrage of shots. Murphy recorded six saves on the night and turned away several dangerous looks to keep Nelson in contention.
The second half, however, belonged to the Saints. In the 61st minute, OLLU's Leah Tapia connected off an assist from Gabrielle Deleon to reclaim the lead, 2–.
As Nelson pushed forward late searching for an equalizer, Diversi struck again with less than 20 seconds remaining, sealing the 3–1 result for OLLU.
The Lady Lions were outshot 19–1, but the team showed resilience and flashes of creativity despite the uphill battle. The Stephanie Hernandez first-half goal stood out as a bright spot, while Murphy's poise in goal kept the game within reach until the final whistle.
