Box Score Waxahachie, Texas – With the final home game of the season and Senior Night underway, the Nelson Lions faced a crucial matchup against the Central Christian Tigers. Despite a strong offensive showing from Nelson, the match remained tight until the final whistle, resulting in a frustrating 0-0 draw for the Lions.
For Nelson, the result was frustrating for several reasons. For starters, the tie will likely put an end to the Lions' postseason hopes, as Nelson needed to win out to have a chance at securing a spot in the conference tournament.
Secondly, the offensive attack heavily favored Nelson throughout the match, making the scoreless draw even more difficult to swallow. The Lions dominated in shot attempts, totaling 21 compared to just eight from the Tigers. Even more impressive, Nelson put 12 of those 21 shots on goal, while Central Christian managed just one shot on target throughout the entire match.
Maquan Aldridge and
Joel Palmer led the offensive charge for the Lions. Aldridge recorded four shot attempts, with three on goal, while Palmer followed closely behind with three shots of his own, including two on target.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper
Yahir Perez had a relatively quiet night between the posts, facing just one shot on goal and recording one save. The Tigers' remaining seven shot attempts were all off target, as Nelson's defense kept Central Christian's offensive opportunities to a minimum.
Although the Lions avoided recording a loss, the scoreless draw was certainly a heartbreaking result for Nelson, especially considering the team's offensive dominance and the importance of the matchup.
