Lady Lions Complete Series Sweep with Saturday Doubleheader Victories

Box Score

McPherson, KS | March 14, 2026 — The Nelson University Lady Lions capped off a dominant weekend in Kansas on Saturday, sweeping the final doubleheader against Central Christian College to complete the four-game series sweep in Sooner Athletic Conference play.

Behind clutch pitching, timely power, and opportunistic offense, Nelson secured 4–1 and 4–2 victories to close the road trip in commanding fashion.

Game 1
The Lady Lions wasted no time seizing momentum in the opener. In the first inning, Cadence Hopgood launched a solo home run to left-center, immediately putting Nelson on the board and setting the tone for the afternoon.

Nelson added another run in the second inning when Juli King delivered an RBI single, pushing the lead to 2–0. The Lions extended the advantage in the fourth inning with two more runs, capitalizing on defensive miscues and clutch hitting to build a comfortable cushion.

In the circle, Elena Mendez delivered a strong performance, working 6.2 innings while allowing just one run and striking out five to keep the Tigers from gaining traction offensively.

Central Christian threatened late, but Braylei Pylant entered to record the final out and secure the save as the Lions held on for the 4–1 victory.

Game 2
Nelson carried that momentum into the second game of the day, once again leaning on balanced offense and steady pitching.

The Lions struck in the second inning to take the early lead before breaking the game open in the fifth inning with a three-run surge that proved to be the difference. Nelson capitalized on defensive errors and timely hitting to push across the decisive runs.

Offensively, Marcella Bryan and Avery Coleman each recorded multi-hit performances, helping pace a seven-hit attack. Coleman also added an extra-base hit and a stolen base, creating pressure on the Tigers throughout the game.

In the circle, Braylei Pylant earned the win, delivering 5.2 innings of work while allowing just two runs before Macie Blizzard closed the game with a dominant relief outing to seal the 4–2 victory.

With the two victories Saturday, Nelson completed the four-game series sweep and continued to build momentum in conference play. The Lady Lions showcased their depth throughout the weekend with timely hitting, strong defensive execution, and multiple pitchers stepping up in key moments.
