Lady Lions Battle in Day 2 of the Siouxland Invitational

NORTH SIOUX CITY, SD — The Nelson University Lady Lions battled through a pair of matches Saturday at the CNOS Fieldhouse, facing Dakota Wesleyan University and Morningside University as part of their season-opening tournament. 

Despite their efforts, Nelson dropped both matches, losing to Dakota Wesleyan in 3 sets and falling to Morningside 3-1. 

Game One 

In their 3-0 loss to Dakota Wesleyan, the Lady Lions showed some heart offensively as Addison Standley recorded 10 kills, followed by Mackenzie Smith with 7, and Savannah Bergman with 6. The offense was led by Cassidy Hargesheimer and Blair Kram who each tallied double-digit assist numbers with 15 and 14. 

Defensively, Chloe Munoz led the team with 16 digs, followed closely by Taylor Felux who recorded 15. Hargesheimer also contributed defensively as she totaled 12 digs as well. At the net, Caroline Boone and Keara Savory-Calbo each recorded 2 blocks. 

Game Two

After falling in game one, the Lady Lions looked to bounce back for game two against Morningside University, but were unable to pull out a win as they dropped their second game of the day. 

Once again, Standley led the offense with 10 kills, followed by 7 kills from Smith, and 6 kills from Boone. Hargesheimer tallied 19 assists in this match, leading the Lady Lions, while Kram also added 9. 

Savory-Calbo was dominant at the net, recording 5 blocks this match. Smith also made her presence felt at the net as she brought in 3 blocks as well. Munoz had a great defensive performance again, leading Nelson with 17 digs. The Lady Lions received a spark from Felux, as she record 3 aces in the match. 

Up Next:
The Lady Lions will make their first home appearance in the Sheaffer Center to host the Texas Two Step August 28-29 as they take on McPherson College at 12:00 PM and Texas A&M Texarkana at 6:00 PM for day 1.
