The Southwestern Assemblies of God University (SAGU) Volleyball team was on the road Monday night against Southwestern Christian University (SCU). In the first set SCU was able to keep it close but the Lady Lions prevailed 25-21. The next 2 sets the Lady Lions were dominant, winning 25-13 and 25-12. It was an all-around team effort, the Lady Lions played well down the stretch and were able to capitalize all night.
Emma Tompkins and
Jancee Akers stepped up big for the Lady Lions and played strong in the middle. The Lady Lions ran a 5-1 for the majority of the match, with Freshman Tori Burns as the setter. A key reason for their victory was the passing game, Coach Moore wanted to improve the passing game from the last outing and it ultimately was the difference tonight.
Notable Performers
- Tori Richard-Burns (FR/ N Richland Hills, TX) led the Lady Lions with 31 assists and 9 digs.
- Jancee Akers (JR/ Rosenberg, TX) had 8 kills, hitting .800 and 4 assist blocks.
- Abby Wells (FR/ Keller, TX) finished with a team high 10 kills
- Faith Marroquin (JR/ Omaha, NE) played well and helped on defense for the Lady Lions. She finished with 10 digs
